The Department of Biotechnology was established in 2005 and introduced as a self financed (Non Grant) subject in view of modernization and rigorous development in biological science and to spread the spirit of co-operation of Science and Technology among coming generations. Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary subject which circumscribes areas of Microbiology, Biochemistry, Virology, Molecular Biology, Plant and Animal Tissue Culture, Chemistry and Engineering. It is a fast emerging science that finds application in all aspects of life.

The department aims to stimulate interest about social and economic implications of Biotechnology subject and to provide extensive hands on training to the students to make it more relevant to the current scenario in Industry and Research field. The department has spacious, well equipped laboratories with all latest instruments and infrastructure facilities, computer set-ups and internet facility for the students.

The departmental library has a good collection of textbooks, encyclopaedias, reputed national and international journals for the students and teachers. Students are regularly assessed by internal assessment process like writing and Power point presentations of the seminar, Unit Tests and Preliminary examination to make them to face the university examinations.

The Department regularly organizes Guest lectures, seminars workshops, competitions and field visits to know the latest updates in the subject, to add greater dimension to learning and make them aware about the practical application of the skills they learn in the field.

HIGHLIGHTS :

  • Students are well acquainted with the subject by organizing study tours and exploring new developments in the field of biotechnology.
  • Department taking extra care about all round personality development by organizing seminar, group discussion, competition and other related activities. The course is provided the education, to face any national competitive exams and syllabus also helps the students to get job opportunities in industry.
  • In each academic year Two Days Workshop organised on Immunology and Molecular Biology in association with Hi-Media Laboratory to provide hands on Skill and Knowledge on Immunology and Molecular Biology.
  • Department is actively involved in the conducting activities under MSI Students Unit. The purpose of the formation of society by students is to provide platform for them to explore their ideas related with subject. The society organizes various activities like guest lectures, poster competition, rangoli competition, etc. Students arrange guest lecturers of eminent personalities in the field of Biotechnology. The MSI society helps to develop the leadership qualities among the student.
