Bachelor of Vocation in Medical Laboratory and Molecular Diagnostic Technology

INTRODUCTION TO DEPARTMENT :

Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) is a 3-year undergraduate level Bachelor’s Degree course, rather a vocational training program, at par with traditional Bachelor’s Degree courses. It is usually a skill development program that includes extensive training and hands-on experience in a particular field. This new age method of education i.e. UGC sponsored B.Voc. course in Medical Laboratory and Molecular Diagnostic Technology was started at Sevadal Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur in the session 2018-19. The course is designed to improve the skills and employability of the students and concentrates not only on the theoretical knowledge, but also focuses to sharpen the skills and expertise of the students through its practical way of training. The course is largely targeted towards youth who want to enhance their employability opportunities to learn, earn and grow.

The aim of the course is to train the students to become industry ready and give the students excellent opportunity to acquire skills and apply them in the six months internship training which a part of their curriculum. Well qualified, committed and dedicated teaching staff members, well developed infrastructure, enriched library facility, best laboratory facility available in the college and extensive training of the students in various aspects related to Medical Laboratory Technology -turns them into skilled Medical Laboratory Technologists.

Field visits and Guest lectures by experts from industry are a routine practice to add greater dimension to learning beyond classroom teaching. Students are regularly assessed by conducting Unit Tests, Seminars and Preliminary Examination.


HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DEPARTMENT :

  • University Grants Commission (UGC) sponsored and Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) affiliated course.
  • Bachelor of Vocation in Medical Laboratory and Molecular Diagnostic Technology (MLMDT) course is a well rounded course having ‘Multiple Exit Point’ such as Diploma/Advanced Diploma/Degree under the National Skills Qualification Framework(NSQF).
  • The candidates can pursue the course for 6 months, 1 year, 2 years and 3 years. They are also awarded a Certificate, Diploma, and Advanced diploma and finally degree in that pursued specialized course
  • The curriculum of the course is a blend of General Education Component and Skill Development Component that ensures holistic development in terms of Laboratory Skills, Communication Skills and Personality Development.
  • Theoretical and Practical study on Human Anatomy, Phlebotomy, Clinical Biochemistry, Medical Microbiology, Immunology, Serology, Hematology, Blood Banking, Molecular Biology,etc.
  • Regular visits to Pathology Laboratories, Blood Banks and Allied Laboratory.
  • Guest Lectures by Renowned and Experienced persons/ Doctors in each Semester.
  • Six Months Internship in Semester VI.
  • Direct entry into employment sector.
  • Degree holders can pursue their Higher Education in M.Voc. /MCM/M.Sc. or can prepare for Competitive exams and Administrative services
  • Corporate Association with Multi-Specialty Hospital Laboratories, Private & Government Pathology Laboratories, Healthcare Institutes.

Our B./ Voc. Students Ms. Disha Sunil Zade and Ms. Khushi Bhoyar won many medals in Wushu championship. Ms. Disha won a gold, a silver and two Bronze medals in Wushu Competition. Ms. Khushi won two gold medals and got selected in All India level to play at Kashmir.



LABORATORY FACILITY :

The well equipped and well managed laboratory of MLMDT is spread in 1260 sq.ft area.All the instruments and equipments required for the course are available.

Heart Health Rally


Heart Health Rally was organized by PEACE foundation Nagpur on 29th September 2025. First and Third Semester students of B. Voc. Medical Laboratory and Molecular Diagnostic Technology along with one faculty member actively participated in the rally.



Health Checkup Camp 2025


Health Checkup Camp was organized by Dept. Of Microbiology, Biotechnology and B.Voc in Medical Laboratory and Molecular Diagnostic Technology at Sevadal Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur on 30th August 2025 for students, faculty and society. Guest lecture on CPR was specially organized in this camp. Different blood tests like CBC, Thalassemia and Sickle cell detection, blood sugar detection, thyroid test, general check up and ECG evaluation was done during this camp. Around 250 candidates were benefited from this camp.

Guest lecture on “Interview Skills”


Guest lecture and workshop was organized on 15th February 2025 on “Interview Skills”. Mr. Onkar Deotale, Soft Skill Trainer, was the Guest speaker. Lecture was followed by Mock interviews.

One day Laboratory visit to Central India Institute of Medical Sciences (CIIMS), Nagpur was organized for the students of Fifth Semester B. Voc. Medical Laboratory and Molecular Diagnostic Technology as a part of their curriculum on 5th December 2025. Twenty-five students of B. Voc. Fifth Semester along with two teaching staff Ms. Monali Poralkar and Ms. Rashmi Mhaske visited the research laboratory.

One day laboratory visit to Central India Institute of Hematology and Oncology, Nagpur (CIIHO), was organized for the students of Fourth Semester, B. Voc. Medical Laboratory and Molecular Diagnostic Technology on 24th February 2026. Seventeen Students of Fourth Semester along with two teaching staff Ms. Monali Poralkar and Ms. Meenal Raut visited the pathology laboratory.

One day Laboratory visit was organized to Rely Path lab, Nagpur by the Department for B.Voc. Second Semester students on 11th April 2026. Total 23 students along with one faculty member visited to the laboratory.

One day Laboratory visit was organized to “Vein Pathology Laboratory, Nagpur” on 23rd January 2024 for the students of B. Voc. Semester I. total 29 students along with two faculty members visited to the lab.

Inauguration of the UGC Sponsored B. Voc. Course was done at the hands of Hon’ble Shri Banwarilalji Purohit, Governor, Tamil Nadu State on 21st October 2018; while Dr. Pramod Yeole, Pro-Vice chancellor of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University; Hon’ble Shri Keshaoraoji Shende, Founder President, Sevadal Education Society; Hon’ble Shri Sanjayji Shende, President, Sevadal Education Society and Hon’ble Prof. P. N. Charde, Principal, Sevadal Mahila Mahavidyalaya were prominantly present for the function.
